10min Yoga Challenge – March 2021

Thanks to Stephen McClean for the photo and good luck Steve on your second challenge

Yoga belongs to everyone.

This is my contribution to that ideal. I’m doing the little bit that I can to help people do something positive through lockdown (myself included). I hope to speak to the folk who might never do yoga, or have been meaning to and haven’t been able to start, as well as those more experienced: everyone up for the challenge of a new thing, or (like me) a return to something familiar (and a bit inspiring). Join me. Join all of us.

31 days of daily practice. Nearly everyone could fit 10 min yoga a day, nearly every day. Time on your mat. Follow the daily videos, and work along with me. Any time that fits your busy life.

I’m not your average yogi. I don’t do yoga because I’m ‘good’ at it: I do it because I need it. I’ve met a few teachers and seen a lot online: toned, athletic bodies, throwing yoga shapes like they are gymnasts. All while living clean, eating plants and being careful about what they put in their bodies.

Aye… That’s not me. I respect these people – they are clearly committed to the yoga. Their practice has changed them and they are striving to live more genuine, ethical lives. But they aren’t the kind of bodies I see people bringing to a class: definitely not the body I bring to my mat. But I know something about yoga (teacher since 2005) and bodies generally (physiotherapist since 2010) and folk generally enjoy my teaching style. I’m returning to fitness, and if that’s you, I can help. If you are inflexible (fit or otherwise) I can help you too.

The Challenge

  • The challenge is to do 10min on your mat today, and everyday in March.
  • There are 2 streams to choose from, depending on you ability / interest. Fundamentals and Movement
  • Fundamentals has more teaching, covers the basics in a structured way, building over the 4 weeks. Often with a companion piece for new asanas
  • Movement stream – in my mind this is for people who understand and can observe their bodies’ willingness (or otherwise) to move, and who can react to it in real time. But you do your own risk assessment. Bottom line: no pain (either during or after)
  • It’s 10 minutes (ish) and it’s free (unless you want to become a supporter)
  • Access to a teacher you can ask yoga questions of
  • Pick your own time (set an alarm – just me?)
  • If you want to do more, repeat the session, or pause the video to repeat the poses more
  • Daily yoga changes you – it calms & stabilises the mind, aids concentration, it strengthens, tones, and improves balance
  • if you are enjoying it and can afford it: you can buy me a coffee, or support me on patreon. If you can’t afford it (or have other priorities for your hard earned cash, etc), you are also very welcome – and the best way to support me and betterway2be is to share the link and tell someone how much you like it.
